Friday the 13th

Jay Z feat. Alicia Keys - Empire State of Mind

Friday the 13th.
Woke up the next morning partially mute and deaf with a hole in my wallet and a bump on the left side of my head.
Here's a toast to an awesome day and night.
Cheers.

I've forgotten how beautiful you are

Thank you

Dear Mr. Nolan,

I must say when I first saw the trailer for Inception, I was a little skeptical. I wasn't sure if it will live up to your past movies like Memento, The Prestige, or Dark Knight. I mean the catch phrase "Your mind is the crime scene" sounds a lil bit corny to me. But still I had high expectations for this movie.

I wish to thank you for rewarding my faith and ultimately for writing and directing Inception.
I wish to also thank you for giving me something to blog about. During a time when I have absolutely nothing i wanna talk about, you give me one of the most complex, intelligent, thrilling movies to talk about.

In a time when innovativeness, originality, and creative juices seem to be flowing out of Hollywood and movies now resort to; remakes, cliched romantic flicks, pathetic sequels, 3D effects which sole purpose is to conceal the lack of depth of a movie, and ideas or stories copied from novels or, worst, games, you restore my faith in movies by producing one of the most innovative and original movies i've ever seen.

With just the idea that you have for this movie, you could easily make a good movie which is why I applaud you for not settling for just a good movie. You made it great and memorable by giving it even more depth. Even after watching the movie you still have me thinking bout it. You still have me recalling as much of the details in the movie as I can to solve all the questions that you have presented to us, although deep down I know very well I may never fully comprehend this film. Like all the mazes in the movie created to obscure dreams from reality. Like the Penrose staircase in the movie. Paradox. Until now, thinking about that last scene still gives me goosebumps.

I can't ask for a better movie from you. Thank you for exceeding all my wildest expectations.
So you may wonder why on earth would I blog instead of writing you a letter? Well, the chances of you ever reading my letter are slim and having my letter stash along with all your other fan mails does not do your film justice. So I've decided that I'll blog about it instead in hopes that you'll find this letter of appreciation. And if you don't, at least it'll entice my readers to watch Inception.

Sincerely,
Khin

Random Update

Saosin - You're Not Alone

Classes have started for bout 3 weeks now and I still don't have that urge to study yet. Really lacking the motivation to study now. I think it's due to my counter-productive timetable.

I have 3 lectures on Mon which is ok coz it helps kick start my weeks after the weekends. However, I got no class on Tues.

So much for kick starting my week. On Wed, I'm supposed to have a class in the morning and one more at 4pm (that's a 6 hour break in between in case you're wondering) but my tutor for the morning class says tutorial will only start at the end of the month.

So, effectively, i have like almost 2 days break after mon. Thurs classes only start after 12 pm and I have only one class on Fri morning. Haihhh I think I'm goin to go to coll in the morning everyday regardless of what time my classes start in order to get me to start studying. Mid sem and quizzes are coming up and the subjects this year seem pretty tough.

Ohh yeah, speaking of quizzes, I won't be flying to Perth for the VC List Presentation Ceremony at the end of this month la. So happens, there's a quiz which falls on that particular day. Luckily I haven't booked the air ticket yet. Guess I'll be saving up the money to travel to Aus (or other countries) after my final year hehe.

Anyway, on a happier note, I feel good lately hahaha. Yeahh it's kinda random but i just thought you all should know la. I think some of you noticed that I haven't been myself lately and just a lil depressed with something. No worries if I don't share my problems with u. I don't usually tell ppl I tengah emo.

As long as I know I got great friends who I can depend on, I'll be fine.

We won't get any new friends dy,
all also we 'zat' like hell.
Nobody will wanna be friend with us.
-Wei Mun
Haha which makes no difference to me really
coz I already have the best around me

Book of Eli

Aretha Franklin - Natural Woman

Like always, let me just tell u a bit bout the movie before I tell you what I think bout the movie.
I'm not sure when is the movie set in but I'm guessing it's set in the not too distant future. Anyway, in the not too distant future, our world as we know has gone to shit. About 30 years ago, there was a flash of blinding light which tore a 'hole' in the sky. This 'hole' allows the sun UV light to burn the whole world. Thus, the shitty world you see. I know the details are a lil vague, but again I'm guessing the flash of blinding light was due to nuclear war which tore a hole in our ozone layer, you know the part of our atmosphere which protects us from dangerous UV light.

Anyway, let us skip to the story shall we. The world is in chaos now. There are no rules and laws to govern ppl. Ppl are fighting for scarce resources like water and food. And towns are run by gangsters. And out of all these mess, a man walks from East to West for the past 30 years carrying the last bible in the world. However, another man named Carnegie wants the bible for no good reasons. Obviously, the man carrying the bible will do everything he can to protect it coz he believes God told him to bring the bible to West.

As soon as the movie started, I knew this is one movie which most ppl will not like. And I was right. Most ppl in the theater were so restless and couldn't wait to leave the hall when it ended. So considered yourself warned. You see, the pace of the movie is really slow. Regardless, I'm still a huge fan of this movie coz I think it's really original and refreshing. There were a few action scenes in the movie but most of the time the movie is slow and revolved around conversations and discussions.

Plus, if you wanna watch this movie, you have to keep an open mind. Seriously, coz this movie ruffles feathers. Whether you're a Christian or not, you might be offended. Wonder why there was only 1 bible left? coz ppl blamed the bible for the war thus they burnt all the bibles. If you're not a Christian, you may find this movie to be something of a propaganda for Christianity coz the movie is basically about using the bible to save the world. Therefore, if you really wanna enjoy this movie, you have to keep an open mind.

Like I said, Book of Eli is not for everyone which is kinda disappointing coz it just shows that ppl nowadays don't really enjoy thought provoking and engaging movies anymore. But if you're not one of these ppl, then I recommend you give this movie a chance.

Just because I don't share its beliefs,
does not mean I can't appreciate the beauty of its words.

Of Reunions and Good Byes

Bob Sinclair - Rock This Party

Us guys usually have a hard time expressing how we feel to other guys. I mean we already have a hard time telling girls how we feel. Tell them you love them and they might get scared away or don't tell them how you feel and end up wondering what could have happened. As for the guys, if i tell them that I missed them or I'll miss them, they'll call me gay.

So life's difficult all around but luckily for us guys, our problem of expressing how we feel for members of the same gender can be solved. How you asked? JD Black Label and a little Vodka haha.

As some of you might know, Honn Wing will be leaving for Aus next week so he threw a little farewell party at Opera for his friends. But then again it felt more like a reunion, at least, during the earlier part of the night. It was the 1st time we all actually chill together during the holiday. Plus, it was the first time I met up with Chun Wai and Joash who just came back from Aus.

Like I said, there's nothing like a little liquid courage to get us to express how we feel to each other. When the night was coming to an end, when it finally started to feel like a farewell party, all of us were hugging each other and telling each other how we'll miss each other. Even the usually cool and stoner face honn wing was admitting that he'll miss us haha.

So as you can see, with a little liquor, we have bromance ahaha. Well, I can't say the same for romance though.

I'm gonna miss all you guys
-Various masculine guys of Metro except for
Robin and Wayne of course haha

I Want The Truth. Period

Pilot Speed - Melt Into the Walls

There's nothing like exertion of pure unfiltered emotion to inspire me to express myself honestly. Ask me if I'd prefer to be told something which is untrue but yet comforting/complimenting/nice or something which is cold, hard, difficult but true and honest and I'll take the cold hard truth anytime.

These cold hard truths make me the person I am today. Time and time again, I've been told I'm not good enough.

I've been told I'm not smart enough. Well, thank you for telling me that I'm not the smartest person in the class. Otherwise, I wouldn't know that I need to work harder than everyone else to be one of the best. And look where I am now.

I've been told I'm not good enough to train with this so called 'elite group' not only by the 2 coaches in charged but by the current national coach as well. I admit I was not the most talented but you all have to admit as well that I was definitely the most dedicated and hardworking one. Who's the one who always attended training? Who's the one who always decided to stay and train when everyone else went for competitions? Even you have to admit the great progress I made in just a year.

Well, like I said the cold hard truths made me the person I am today. And I expect nothing less in the future. If the work and effort I'm putting in is not good enough, tell me and I'll gladly double, triple what I'm currently putting in. If the person I love doesn't feel the same way anymore, let me know and I'll walk away so as to not waste both our time.

As you can see, the truths hurt sometimes but at least they give you something far more important than the feeling of comfort. It helps you see the reality of the situation. Only then will you be able to act accordingly. And maybe then, you'll be able to help make the situation better.

I saw the most amazing thing today.
I saw unfiltered, cold and hard truth which came out of pure love.
A girl told her mom she was goin to die.
Stripped away all her hope.
Forcing her to see nothing but reality.
